The Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ is preceded by a Fifty day period which is called Advent (Hisnakats). Advent spans a period of roughly 7 weeks but today the Armenian Church observes only three of them; the first week of Advent is called Hisnakats Week, the Abstinence of St.James (Hacob) of Nisibis is at the median point of Advent, and the week before is the Theophany, which precedes the feast of the Holy Nativity.
