In 1989, Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I signed the re-opening Encyclical of the Artsakh Diocese. On October 1, after a break of half a century, a Sunday Liturgy was held in the Saint Hovhannes Baptist Cathedral of Gandzasar, which was offered by the spiritual Pastor of the Diocese, His Grace Bishop Pargev Martirosyan, a participant of the Artsakh movement. In 2022, Artsakh welcomes the 33rd anniversary of the reopening of the diocese with new challenges.
