Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump in late February asking for his administration’s support in freeing the Armenian detainees and prisoners of the Artsakh war held in illegal captivity by Azerbaijan. His Eminence Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan stated in his letter that Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan are subjected to inhumane treatment and torture.

The Armenian Diocese of France, together with the leaders of the Coptic and Assyrian ancient Oriental Orthodox Churches, called for the immediate release of Armenian prisoners and hostages who are being unlawfully held in Baku.

Earlier, in November, at the initiative of the Catholicos of All Armenians, a joint prayer for peace, the release of Armenian prisoners and hostages, and support for the forcibly displaced Armenians of Artsakh took place at the headquarters of the World Council of Churches in Geneva.
