World Council of Churches to Elect New General Secretary 22.08.2003

The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches will convene in Geneva, Switzerland from August 26 to September 2, 2003. Representing the Armenian Church on behalf of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will be His Eminence Archbishop Aghan Baliozian, Primate of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand; and Miss Silva Ghazelyan, from the Mother See.

Archbishop Baliozian will arrive prior to the commencement of the Central Committee meetings to participate in the Program Committee meetings on August 24 and 25. He will also lead the worship service on August 30.

Miss Ghazelyan will participate in the Policy Reference Committee II meetings.

One of the important tasks of the Central Committee meetings will be the election of a new General Secretary for the WCC. The term of the outgoing General Secretary, Dr. Konrad Raiser, ends in December of 2003.
