Visit to Tsitsernakaberd by Pope Shenouda III and Catholicos Karekin II
On May 4, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and His Holiness Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, visited the "Tsitsernakaberd" Memorial to the Armenian Genocide, and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the first genocide of the 20th Century.
After placing floral wreaths near the monument, the two Pontiffs conducted a solemn Repose of Souls Service in memory of the 1.5 million Armenian martyrs who perished in the final days of the Ottoman Empire. Following the Requiem Service, the two Pontiffs planted a memorial tree on the grounds of the Genocide Museum.
Later that same day, the Heads of the Coptic Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic Churches attended a concert in the Armenian Church Youth Center, located in the Nork district of Yerevan.
In the evening Pope Shenouda met with the seminarians of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Vaskenian Theological Seminary of Lake Sevan.
