Vazkenian Theological Seminary's CD "Arevagal in Geghard" Wins Best Liturgical Album of the Year
The Fifth Annual Armenian Music Awards (2002) honored the Lousavorich Choir of the Vazkenian Theological Seminary of Sevan by naming their "Arevagal in Geghard" compact disc as Best Liturgical Album of the Year. The Album was awarded the "Anoush" statuette a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, California.
The "Arevagal in Geghard" CD is the choir's second album. Their first was their recording of the "Patarag" (Liturgy), by Komitas. The group's second album contains spiritual hymns which are sung during the Arevagal (Sunrise) Service, the author of which is St. Nerses the Graceful. Also on the album are other church hymns which are sung during various church feasts.
The "Lousavorich" (Illuminator) Choir group of the Vazkenian Theological Seminary of Sevan was founded two years ago, upon the initiative of Very Rev. Fr. Bagrat Archimandrite Galstanian, the Dean of the Seminary. The album was recorded under the supervision of Shota Vardanian, Art Director, and Deacon Arthur Petrosian, Choirmaster, in the Brevis Studio of the Union of Composers of Armenia.
