"Traditional Values, Modern Challenges" International Conference in the Mother See 22.03.2018

On March 22, with the support of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and Russian Orthodox Church, the 3rd one-day international conference titled "Traditional Values, Modern Challenges" was held in the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library. The conference was organized by the Charity Foundation for the Support of the Russian Sanctuaries of Mount Atos.

Prior to the conference, the participants of the conference viewed the exhibition, "The Church as a Family and Ancestral Memory Repository”, organized by the State Archives of Armenia.

The conference was opened with the Lord's Prayer, following which the Plenary Session Chairman, Mr. Aram Safaryan, Chairman of the "Integration and Development" NGO; expressed his gratitude to His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for supporting the conference.

Rev. Fr. Markos Mangasaryan, Director of the Social Service Department of Mother See, welcomed the participants, conveying the blessings and best wishes of His Holiness Karekin II. Fr. Markos gladly noted the involvement of the Armenian Apostolic and Russian Orthodox churches in the conference, highlighting the materials to be discussed at the conference and the Church's role in protecting traditional values.

The participants of the conference were also welcomed by Hayk Babukhanyan, Republic of Armenia’s National Assembly Deputy; Rev. Fr. Stephan Igumnov, Secretary of Inter-Christian Relations of External Church Relations Department of the Patriarchate of Moscow; Rev. Fr. Andrey Vats, Dean of Representation of the Patriarchate of Moscow and All-Russia in Gyumri; and Mr. Sergey Rubinski, Head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture and others. They also read the message of Mr. Ivan Volinkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia addressed to the conference participants.

During the conference, reports were presented by Armenian and Russian experts, public figures and clergymen related to traditional, family values, challenges facing them, and in this regard the influence of geopolitical realities, and the impact of television and social networks on the formation of youth outlook.

At the end of the discussions following the reports, the participants of the conference toured the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Mother Cathedral and the Museums.
