The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Offers Accelerated Academic Course for the Priesthood

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin announced on Monday, February 18, that the Kevorkian Theological Seminary would begin accepting applications for a special two-year academic course for preparation of priests for the Armenian Church. The accelerated, highly intensive, two-year program will be open to select individuals who meet the strict entrance requirements, and have been recommended by their Diocesan Primates.

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, implemented the inauguration of this academic course. His belief that the Armenian Church must deliver the faith, hope and love of Christ's message to a greater portion of the population is the objective of the program. As a result, the main target areas that the program will endeavor to reach are the rural villages that are in need of additional priests.

Applicants must be faithful sons of the Church, under the age of 40, have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an institution of higher learning, and secure the recommendation of the Primate of their Diocese. Other requirements will also apply, including letters of reference from current and past employers and consultations with members of the applicant's immediate family. First consideration will be given to schoolteachers in rural regions of the Republic of Armenia.

The course will commence on April 1, 2002. Students will be provided room and board for the duration of the two-year program. The application deadline is March 15, 2002.

Applications may be secured by contacting the Diocesan Primate's office, or by directly contacting the Kevorkian Theological Seminary.
