The Catholicos of All Armenians Received the Newly Appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Armenia
On February 10, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mrs. Madalena Fischer, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Republic of Armenia in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The Armenian Patriarch, congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment, wished him an efficient mission for the further strengthening of Armenian-Portuguese friendly ties.
Referring to the current situation in the region and the blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan, His Holiness expressed his concern regarding the harassment of the right of Artsakh Armenians to live safely and peacefully and the resulting humanitarian disaster.
The Armenian Patriarch noted the importance of the efforts of the international community regarding the reopening of the Lachin Corridor and the peaceful settlement of the Artsakh issue. His Holiness expressed hope that the Portuguese authorities will also be actively involved in establishing peace and stability in the region.
During the meeting, the Catholicos of All Armenians also referred to the issues of preservation of the Armenian spiritual and historical-cultural heritage in the territories passed under the control of Azerbaijan.
During the conversation, His Holiness noted with gratitude that the "Galust Gulbenkian" foundation operating in Portugal had an important contribution to the life of the Armenian people, with the support of which the overhaul of the Mother Cathedral was also carried out in 1954.
In turn, Ambassador Madalena Fischer also emphasized the necessity of reopening the Lachin Corridor. The Ambassador also emphasized the deepening and expansion of cooperation between Armenia and Portugal in the field of education.
