The Catholicos of All Armenians Received President of the Republic of Iraq
On November 22, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, who is on an official visit to Armenia.
Welcoming the visit of the delegation led by the President of Iraq to the spiritual center of all Armenians, His Holiness expressed his confidence that the latter's visit to Armenia will contribute to closer relations between the two peoples and strengthening of interstate ties. Speaking about the Armenian community in Iraq, the Catholicos of All Armenians noted that it makes an important contribution to the deepening of Armenian-Iraqi relations. In this regard, His Holiness expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi authorities for their attention to the community and its national-spiritual life.
At the meeting, the Armenian Patriarch also referred to the military and genocidal actions unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, as a result of which the Armenians of Artsakh were forcibly deported, and presented the security and humanitarian challenges facing the country.
In turn, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid informed that the visit of his delegation to Armenia aims to further strengthen and develop the cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The President referred to the situation in Iraq and the steps taken by the authorities to overcome the existing challenges.On this occasion, the President of Iraq emphasized with satisfaction that the Armenian community of Iraq also brings its important participation in the development of the country's progress.
The latter also confirmed that the Iraqi authorities make consistent efforts to ensure the harmonious coexistence of the country's national and religious minorities and the protection of their rights.
President Latif Jamal Rashid extended an invitation to the Patriarch of All Armenians to visit Iraq.
During the conversation, a reference was also made to the nationalistic mission of the Armenian Church.
