The Catholicos of All Armenians Hosted the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East and the delegation headed by him 11.10.2022

On October 11, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; hosted His Holiness Mar Awa III Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East and the delegation led by him.

Welcoming the Assyrian Catholicos-Patriarch's visit to the Armenian spiritual center, His Holiness emphasized that friendly relations and inter-church ties between the Armenian and Assyrian peoples go back centuries. His Holiness noted that he had the opportunity to visit various Assyrian communities in Armenia and communicate with members of the communities, confirming that the latter preserve their language and cultural characteristics.

Expressing gratitude to the Armenian Patriarch for his warm welcome, His Holiness Mar Awa III Catholicos-Patriarch emphasized that the purpose of his pastoral visit is to participate in the consecration of the Church of the Assyrian community of Armenia, as well as to deepen and strengthen the fraternal relations with the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.

The Catholicos-Patriarch, referring to the Assyrian community of Armenia, mentioned that the Assyrians living in Armenia are the loyal citizens of the country and according to everything, they bring their service to the Motherland. In this regard, Patriarch-Catholic Mar Awa III informed that during the 44-day war, the representatives of the Assyrian community also took part in the defense of the motherland and, unfortunately, had martyrs.

The Catholicos of All Armenians touched upon the losses of the Assyrian community with deep sorrow, expressing confidence that the Spiritual Head's pastoral visit will bring great comfort to his followers.

Referring to the situation in the region and Azerbaijan's continued aggression against Armenia, His Holiness expressed hope that the international community will also make active efforts to curb the aggressions of the neighboring country and protect the rights of the Armenian people. The Armenian Patriarch also spoke with satisfaction about the support shown by the Sister Churches to the Armenian Church and the people during the 44-day Artsakh war.

At the meeting, the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East wished that with the Lord's blessing, peace and justice would be established in the region.
