Requiem Service in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in Memory of September 11

On Tuesday evening, September 10, a solemn requiem Repose of Souls Service was conducted in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, in memory of the more than 3,000 innocent souls who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, USA, on September 11, 2001.

The service was held in the Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin with His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians presiding. In attendance for the service were diocesan primates, members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin, Republic of Armenia Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, Ambassadors registered in Armenia, representatives of international organizations working in Armenia, members of the Supreme Spiritual Council, and hundreds of faithful.

During the service, His Grace Bishop Paren Avedikian offered a homily. In addition, His Holiness Karekin II's letter of sympathy to United States President George Bush was read to those in attendance. The letter was presented to Mr. John Ordway, United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia, to be forwarded to Washington.
