Requiem Service in Holy Etchmiadzin In Memory of Lt. Gurgen Margarian and Victims of the Sumgait Massacres
On February 29, the Armenian Church commemorated the second Sunday of Great Lent - the Sunday of Expulsion. Rev. Fr. Hayrik Hovhannisian celebrated a solemn Divine Liturgy in the Mother Cathedral of All Armenians.
Following the Liturgy, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, presided during the Repose of Souls service offered in memory of Lieutenant Gurgen Margarian, an officer of the Armenian Army savagely murdered in Budapest, Hungary, by an officer of the Army of Azerbaijan during a NATO Partnership for Peace conference. Prayers were also offered for rest for the souls of the victims of the massacres of the Armenian population of Sumgait, Azerbaijan, which occurred sixteen years ago on the eve of the liberation movement for Artsakh.
