President Sargsyan Attends Armenian Church Representative Assembly
On June 8th during the morning session of the 6th Armenian Church Representative Assembly, President Serzh Sargsyan of the Republic of Armenia, attended the meeting at the invitiation of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
Following the Lord’s Prayer, the session was opened with the remarks of His Holiness.
The Armenian Pontiff welcomed the presence of the President at the meeting, and reflected on the mission and results of the Armenian Church Representative Assembly. He remarked that the Assembly provides resolutions to overcome the challenges facing the Armenian Church and greatly contributes to the effectiveness of the Church's mission.
The Armenian Pontiff also noted with satisfaction the constant support displayed by the local authorities towards the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.
“The Armenian Church has always stood by our country; and through its abilities, structures and worldwide dioceses, is ready to support you and the local authorities in resolving the problems and challenges facing our country, and the implementation of the cherished dreams of our nation”, stated His Holiness and wished the President success in his highly responsible mission.
President Sargsyan greeted the members of the Assembly, stressing the importance of convening the 6th Armenian Church Representative Assembly in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. He wished the Assembly members productive work.
During the meeting, the President answered questions of the delegates, which were on the various topics of: progress on the settlement process for the conflict in Artsakh; the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijan line of contact border; socio-economic problems facing the country; the assistance rendered to Syrian Armenians who found refuge in Armenia; church-state relations; and strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora ties.
