Prayer on the Occasion of the Anniversary of Sumgait Pogroms in Tsitsernakaberd
On February 28, on the occasion the anniversary of the pogroms in Sumgait, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; accompanied by the Brotherhood members of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial, where His Holiness along with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Nikol Pashinyan and state officials, paid tribute to the victims of Sumgait Pogroms.
Following the placement of the wreaths, the Pontiff of All Armenians; along with His Eminence Archbishop Navasard Kjoyan, Vicar of the Araratian Patriarchal Diocese; His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See; His Grace Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, Head Chaplain of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia; and His Grace Bishop Moushegh Babayan, Director of the Operations of the Mother See; prayed for the peace of souls of the victims of the Sumgait massacres, then laid flowers at the cross-stone memorials erected in honor of the victims.
