Prayer for Peace in the Mother Cathedral 11.09.2017

On September 10, under the presidency of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, an Ecumenical Prayer for Peace was offered in the Mother Cathedral, dedicated to the establishment and strengthening of peace in the Middle East.

Present at the Prayer for Peace were members of the Council of the Spiritual Leaders of Christian Communities of Iraq who had traveled to the Mother See: Mr. Raad Jalil Kachachi, head of the Office of Religious Endowments for Christians and other religions in Iraq; His Eminence Archbishop Avak Asadourian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Iraq; Archbishop Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Mosul; Archbishop Jean Benjamin Sleiman, of the Archdiocese of Baghdad of the Catholic Church and General Secretary of the Council; Archbishop Ephrem Yousif Abba Mansoor, of the Diocese of Baghdad of the Syriac Catholic Church and Yusuf Jamil Al-Sagga, a lay member of the Council. The members of the Council of the Spiritual Leaders of Christian Communities of Iraq had traveled to Armenia upon the initiative of Archbishop Avak. Also present for the service were Ambassadors and attorneys of the Middle East accredited in the Republic of Armenia.

Before the ceremony, Archbishop Avak made remarks, following which, each of the Iraqi priests conveyed his prayer for the establishment of peace in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, and for the strengthening of religious tolerance.

The Ecumenical Prayer for Peace concluded with the “Protector” prayer by His Holiness.
