His Holiness Karekin II Receives UN Representatives
On July 1, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Assistant High Commissioner of UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), Mr. Kamel Morjane; and the UNHCR representative in Armenia, Mr. Lloyd Dakin.
Welcoming the UN representatives, His Holiness expressed appreciation for efforts and programs being implemented towards providing permanent shelter for refugees in Armenia. Reflecting on the role of the Church in this area, His Holiness noted, "Certainly, there are many problems in Armenia with homelessness and substandard housing. The Church also has an important mission to realize in that sphere. By providing a home for a family, you provide them an opportunity to organize their lives and begin the process toward normalization. Every new home gives hope for one more family. You provide the material, and the Church must provide the spiritual. We thank you and stand ready to assist you in contributing to your work in support of the refugees".
Mr. Morjane thanked His Holiness for the reception and pledged to continue the efforts of UNHCR in Armenia.
