His Holiness Karekin II Defrocks Two Priests

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, has issued a Pontifical Order whereby Rev. Fr. Mashtots Zhoroyan and Rev. Fr. Narek Aharonian have been defrocked. From this time forward, they shall be recognized by their baptismal names of Mushegh Zhoroyan and Garik Aharonian, respectively, and be considered to be members of the laity.
Mushegh Zhoroyan was defrocked for uncanonically abandoning and willfully deserting his spiritual service. Garik Aharonian was defrocked for continuing his anti-canonical association with the defrocked schismatic Ghazaros Kyureghian. The order was issued on April 1, 2004.
