Heads of the Coptic Orthodox and Georgian Orthodox Churches to Visit Armenia
From May 2 through 5, by the invitation of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and on the occasion of the celebration of the 1,700th Anniversary of the Consecration of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, and Head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, will lead a delegation to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The Coptic Orthodox Church, whose headquarters are in Egypt, is in full communion with the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Additionally, from May 7 through 9, the Head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, will be the guest of the Mother See.
During their separate visits, the leaders of the churches will participate in joint services and visit different churches, monasteries and holy sites. The Heads of both churches will meet with the President of the Republic of Armenia during their stay. Also planned are visits to the "Tsitsernakaberd" Armenian Genocide Memorial, and the National Academy of Sciences.
In the course of his visit to the Mother See, His Holiness Shenouda III, will also participate in the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, May 4, and present a lecture to the seminarians in the Gevorkian Theological Seminary.
