Chief Rabbi of Israel Visits Holy Etchmiadzin
On November 21, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians received Yona Metzger, Chief Rabbi of Israel. Rabbi Metzger and his delegation are in Armenia upon the invitation of His Holiness.
Welcoming the historic visit of the Chief Rabbi to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the Pontiff of All Armenians reflected on the mission of the Armenian Church and the renewal of spiritual life within the faithful.
Rabbi Metzger expressed his gratitude for the cordial reception, and spoke of the friendly relations between the Armenian and Jewish peoples, as well as the commonalities between the two faiths.
During the meeting, His Holiness and the Chief Rabbi spoke of the events throughout history that had brought the two peoples closer, strengthening their mutual respect of one another. Also discussed was the topic of preparation of clergy for both faiths.
Rabbi Metzger's delegation includes the Honorable Yuri Stern, member of the Israeli Knesset, and high-ranking rabbis.
Present during the reception were His Grace Bishop Yeznik Petrosian, Director of Inter-Church Relations for the Mother See and His Grace Bishop Arshak Khatchatrian, Chancellor of the Mother See.
