Catholicos of All Armenians Received the Newly Appointed Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia 14.03.2016

On March 13, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mr. Levon Mkrtchyan, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting was also attended by His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, Director of the Christian Education Center of Mother See.

The Catholicos of All Armenians congratulated Minister Mkrtchyan on the occasion of his new appointment and conveyed his best wishes. Stressing the education system as key and essential, His Holiness expressed hope that given his rich experience and familiarity with the sector, the Minister will offer useful service in the field of education.

During the meeting, His Holiness reflected on the close cooperation between the Mother See and the Ministry of Education and Science. On this occasion, His Holiness expressed his appreciation to the Minister, noting that the subject "History of Armenian Church" was introduced into the secondary school system prior to the Minister’s leadership. His Holiness stated with satisfaction that the subject has received a positive reception by the public and the results are visible.

His Holiness made a particular reference to His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, Director of the CEC, stressing that due to the center, public sector representatives and the clergy work in close cooperation, and jointly invest energy and make every effort so that the young generation becomes familiar with the rich national-cultural value system.

Minister Mkrtchyan, stressing the importance of the mission of the Armenian Church in Armenian society, noted that he greatly values the role of the Armenian Church in the educational field.

During the meeting, they also reflected on the education sector reforms, the training of teachers of the "History of Armenian Church" subject, the current challenges and their preventative initiatives.
