Catholicos of All Armenians Received the Newly Appointed Ambassador of Argentina to the Republic of Armenia 27.05.2021

On May 27, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mr. Mariano Vergara, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to the Republic of Armenia. Welcoming the newly appointed Ambassador in the Mother See, the Pontiff of All Armenians congratulated him on assuming a diplomatic mission in Armenia. His Holiness confirmed with gratitude the current cooperation between the two countries, featured with warm friendly relations between the nations; expressing confidence that the Ambassador will make a significant contribution to the strengthening of the ties between Argentina and Armenia. His Holiness noted with gratitude that Argentina was one of the first countries to recognize the Armenian Genocide, and both in the past and today, it supports the Armenian people. Recalling his Pontifical visits to Argentina, His Holiness emphasized the caring attitude of the Argentine authorities towards the Armenian community; reflected on the close inter-church ties with the Armenian Church. In his turn, the Ambassador Mr. Vergara assured His Holiness the he will do his best to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two nations. At the meeting, reference was made to the military operations unleashed by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh, the catastrophic consequences of the war and the existing challenges. The Catholicos of All Armenians, touched upon with concern, the incident of the capture of six Armenian servicemen in the bordering area of Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia, on the morning of May 27; Noting that the international community, in turn, will respond to such unacceptable, reprehensible developments that undermine peace efforts.
