Catholicos of All Armenians Received the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia
On December 14, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; recieved Mr. Nikol Pashinyan, acting RA Prime Minister.
The Catholicos of All Armenians extended his congratulations to the acting Prime Minister on the occasion of the snap parliamentary elections held on December 9 and as well as the recorded successes of Mr. Pashinyan's "My Step" Alliance. His Holiness stressed that the majority of the Armenian citizens participating in the elections expressed their confidence in the Prime Minister and the "My Step" alliance, with the hopes and expectations of creating a peaceful, secure and prosperous life.
In overcoming the challenges facing the country, the Catholicos of All Armenians underlined the necessity of the spirit of unity, solidarity and forgiveness, strengthening of the atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance throughout the public and nation-wide life and the national unity consolidation for the sake of the homeland and centuries-old national aspirations and dreams. His Holiness said that the Armenian Church, committed to its faithful mission, will continue to do its utmost and make every effort for the strengthening of the independent Armenian statehood and national unity.
In his turn, Mr. Nikol Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the Catholicos of All Armenians for the best wishes, noting the importance of the visits to the Armenian Spiritual Center - Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia stated that the country has entered an important stage when we have the opportunity to re-interpret many pages of the Armenian history. “I hope that what happens today in Armenia should become a unique proof that throughout our history, we have been able to derive a common lesson from our mistakes, our misfortunes, failures and victories, which we should be able to serve for the welfare of our people and our country- the Republic of Armenia and Republic of Artsakh and the protection of our people's rights”, stated Mr. Pashinyan.
Mr. Nikol Pasinyan reflected also to the values and the need to change them, stressing the importance of the respect for one's own and others' rights and freedoms at this stage.
During the meeting, they talked about various issues of patriotic and national life, and the Church's mission in the Homeland and the Diaspora.
At the conclusion, the Catholicos of All Armenians wished the acting RA Prime Minister God's support for the implementation of national and patriotic programs.
