Catholicos of All Armenians Received President of Georgia
On March 14, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mrs. Salome Zurabishvili, President of Georgia.
Welcoming the Georgian President's visit to Armenia and the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness highlighted the meetings between the leaders of the two countries which contribute to the further strengthening of the Armenian-Georgian friendly relations. His Holiness greeted the expanded cooperation between the two countries.
His Holiness confirmed that Christian faith and value system had a special role between the friendship of the two people: throughout history both nations have been able to overcome many trials and difficulties through their faith. His Holiness Karekin II highlighted the efforts to preserve the Christian values in the present time and the support of the authorities in this case.
In his remarks, His Holiness specifically referred to the problems of the preservation of Armenian sacred places and cultural heritage in Georgia, expressing hope that they will find their solution under the care of the Georgian authorities.
During the meeting, His Holiness conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to Catholicos-Patriarch Of All Georgia Ilia II.
In turn, President Zurabishvili expressed her joy for his second visit to Armenia, then referred to the challenges facing Georgia. Speaking about the situation in the region, the Georgian president noted that peace has no alternative. Mrs. Zurabishvili also reflected on the existing cooperation between the two countries and prospects for its development.
During the meeting, the Catholicos of All Armenians and the Georgian President also discussed issues concerning the two countries and people.
At the conclusion, His Holiness wished that the Georgian nation live in peace and prosperity under the auspices of the Lord’s Holy Right Hand.
Attending the meeting were His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See; His Grace Bishop Vasken Mirzakhanyan, Armenian Primate of the Diocese of Georgia and Ambassadors of two countries.
