Catholicos of All Armenians Received President of AGBU

On June 15, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mr. Berge Setrakian, President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
During the meeting, His Holiness and the AGBU President reflected on the various challenges facing the nation in Armenia and the Diaspora, the role of the Armenian Church in coping with them, as well as discussed the process of joint programs of the Mother See and the AGBU.
Mr. Setrakian stressed that the AGBU, in attaching importance to the historical mission of the Armenian Church in the national life, has always provided moral and material support to various national initiatives of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, contributing to numerous church-building, spiritual-educational, charitable, social and health programs. Among them a great deal of attention was paid to the preparation of the new generation of clergy, due to which many young clergy today offer their appreciable services in the worldwide dioceses of the Armenian Church.
During the meeting they stressed the importance of the initiatives addressed at the spiritual and patriotic upbringing of the younger generation. In this regard, they reflected on the further expansion and modernization of education programs for the Youth Centers operating under the auspices of the Mother See and the AGBU.
His Holiness expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the AGBU President and AGBU members for their support provided to the mission of the Mother See.
Catholicos Karekin II and the AGBU President also spoke about the recent political developments in Armenia. It was said that the changes in the country will reinforce the well-being of the homeland and will contribute to the development of a bright future.
