Catholicos of All Armenians Received President of AGBU

On 30 April, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Mr. Berge Setrakian, President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (ABGU).
During the meeting, His Holiness and the AGBU President reflected on the effective cooperation between Holy Etchmiadzin and the AGBU, and discussed the joint educational and social programs, and future plans.
His Holiness and Mr. Berge Sedrakian particularly sressed the the importance of the patriotic and Christian education of the youth, as well as programs aimed at the education of the new generation of priests.
The AGBU President presented to His Holiness the AGBU projects being implemented in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh) and different communities in the Diaspora.
The Catholicos of All Armenians expressed his appreciation for the AGBU's pro-national and patriotic activities and support to the mission of the Church.
During the course of the conversation, they discussed the issues and expressed deep concern in connection with the migration of communities due to the situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria and the Syrian-Armenian community. They talked of the proposed next steps by the Mother See and assistance provided by the AGBU. It was stressed that the support to Syrians will be ongoing, and noted the importance that the political, social and national charitable organizations combine and coordinate their efforts.
The Catholicos of All Armenians and Mr. Sedrakian reflected on national-religious life and other issues related to preservation of Armenian identity.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Setrakian attended the Sunday Divine Liturgy in the Mother Cathedral.
