Catholicos of All Armenians Received Metropolitan of Alexandroupolis in Greece
On May 28, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Metropolitan Anthimos of Alexandroupolis in northern Greece; and Archimandrite Irenaeus, who travelled to Armenia to attend the Aurora Prize awards ceremony. They were accompanied by Rev. Fr. Khoren Arakelyan, Vicar of the Armenian Diocese of Greece.
His Holiness expressed his joy on the occasion of the visit of the high-ranking clergy of the Greek Orthodox Church, and stressed the importance of the close cooperation and cordial relations between the two Churches and the Armenian and Greek people.
Metropolitan Anthimos conveyed to His Holiness the warm greetings of His Beatitude Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. In his remarks, Metropolitan Anthimos stressed joyfully that through their lively activity, the Greek community has made important investments in the development and prosperity of Greece. He also spoke about the dark periods in history of the Armenian and Greek people, noting with satisfaction that despite all challenges, the two nations are still building a peaceful and prosperous life today.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Catholicos of All Armenians conveyed his blessings and best wishes to the religious officials, and also conveyed fraternal greetings to His Beatitude Hieronymos II.
The meeting was attended by Very Rev. Fr. Shahe Ananyan, Director of Ecumenical Relations and Rev. Fr. Isahak Poghosyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Bulgaria.
