Catholicos of All Armenians Received Mayor of Willoughby, Australia
On June 9, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; received Ms. Gail Giles-Gidney, Mayor of Willoughby, New South Wales, Australia.
The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Haigazun Najarian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, and Pontifical Legate of India and the Far East.
Bishop Haigazun presented to His Holiness the patriotic activities of the Willoughby Mayor, particularly emphasizing the important role of the city in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The Catholicos Karekin II expressed his appreciation to Mayor Giles-Gidney. His Holiness expressed his joy on the occasion of declaring Yerevan and Sydney as sister cities, expressing confidence that it will particularly contribute to the strengthening of the friendly Armenian-Australian relations and interstate dealings between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Catholicos of All Armenians reflected on his pastoral visits to Australia, noting with satisfaction that he witnessed the flourishing life of the Armenian community, also the warm and respectful treatment toward the Armenians.
Mayor Giles-Gidney spoke about the Armenian community in Sydney, and stressed the importance of developing the cooperation between the cities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Holiness conveyed his blessings and best wishes to the Australian people, wishing them to live in peace and prosperity under the blessings of the Heavenly Lord.
