Catholicos of All Armenians Departs for Pontifical Visit to the Western Diocese of North America
On October 25, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Armenian Church Western Diocese of North America, left for a pontifical visit to the USA at the invitation of the Diocesan Primate His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
During his visit, His Holiness will be accompanied by His Grace Bishop Arshak Khachatryan, Chancellor of the Mother See; Rev. Fr. Garegin Hambardzumyan, Dean of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary; Rev. Fr, Aghan Yernjakyan, staff-bearer of His Holiness; Rev. Fr. Adam Makaryan, Secretary of the Catholicosate office and Mr. Gabriel Chemberjian, benefactor of the Mother See.
His Holiness will preside over a number of events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Diocese, visit Armenian schools in Los Angeles, meet with representatives of Armenian community, as well as youth of the Diocese, Armenian school students and schoolchildren of Saturday schools.
On October 29, a Pontifical Divine Liturgy will be offered in the St. Ghevond Cathedral, at the end of which a National Prayer will be offered on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness.
During the visit, His Holiness will also make a one-day trip to Mexico on October 30, where he will meet the Armenian community, as well attend a special Ecumenical Prayer in the Mother Cathedral of Mexico City, in memory of the earthquake victims.
From November 1 to 3, the Supreme Spiritual Council will hold a regular meeting in the Western Diocese of North America.
