From November 12-13, 2009 the Regional Forum of the International Conference on Population and Development was held in Istanbul on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Conference.
The Forum was co-organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations European Economic Commission for Europe, the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development and the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network.
Upon the invitation of the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia and with the blessing of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, His Grace Bishop Markos Hovhannisian, Primate of the Diocese of Gegharkunik and President of the Board of Trustees of the Round Table Foundation of the World Council of Churches (WCC) represented the Armenian Church in the meeting.
The goal of the Forum is to celebrate what has been accomplished. It is also using this benchmark to acknowledge gaps and challenges, to consolidate lessons learned over the last 15 years, and to come up with practical recommendations for accelerating progress. The participants of the Forum were Government officials, Members of Parliament, researchers and academic experts.
