Supreme Spiritual Council Session in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

The regular session of the Supreme Spiritual Council convened in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on March 6, 2003. His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, is presiding during the meetings.

Among the agenda items, the members are discussing the events surrounding the 1,700th Anniversary of the Consecration of the Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, is chairman of the planning committee. He provided a report to the Council Members on the progress of their work. Among the activities of the year are "Divine Liturgies of Oath", where on a given Sunday, a Diocesan Primate accompanied by the faithful of his Diocese will conduct a pilgrimage to Holy Etchmiadzin. Each Diocese has been assigned a Sunday in 2003, and each respective Primate will celebrate a "Divine Liturgy of Oath" for his Diocese in the Mother Cathedral of the Armenian Nation. Three dioceses of the Armenian Church have already conducted their pilgrimages for the year.

Other agenda items include the developmental progress of the Constitution of the Armenian Church, and a review of the Annual Report of the Mother See for the Year 2002.

The three-day session is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, March 8, 2003.
