The Monastic council is a permanent governing body of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, which carries out its activities in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The Monastic council was established in 2000 by the chairmanship of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
The council's functions are defined by the bylaw of the Armenian Apostolic Church, within the framework of the authorization defined by the Catholicos of All Armenians. The Monastic Council monitors the current activities of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, performs appropriate inspections, requests reports on the activities of the departments, organizes discussions, and also gives instructions as necessary.
