Pan-Armenian fund for the major renovation of the Mother Cathedral
The urgent restoration and renovation works of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin began in 2017 in order to preserve the sanctuary of all Armenians to prevent the Cathedral from total collapse. The last partial renovation of the Mother Cathedral was implemented in the 1950s -1960s. This is the largest overhaul in recent centuries concerning the preservation and renovation of the Mother Cathedral, and requires great resources and the assistance of all Armenians.
On this occasion, on June 23, 2019, during the Feast of the Universal Holy Church of Etchmiadzin, through the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians addressed St. Gregory the Illuminator’s call, “let us build the Holy Altar of Light.”
An honorary committee of trustees and an executive body were created to coordinate the donations for the renovation of the Cathedral. A working group was also established, under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America. Local committees have been formed in various dioceses and communities of the Diaspora.
Today Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin, the sacred shrine of Armenians needs your support, so that it may continue its eternal mission in the life of our people.
