It was created in 2013, under the patriarchal chairmanship of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.
The mission of the office is to study, examine and clarify the challenges of our time, the issues posed by society and express them on the basis of the Bible and Sacred Tradition, decisions of Ecumenical and Local Councils, Church Fathers and Church canons, ritual and encyclical, pastoral care and the experience of other churches and religious communities and express the position of the Armenian Church regarding them.
On the basis of social teaching, the Office for Developing Social Teaching offers solutions to issues related to Christian bioethics, health care, environmental protection, juridical, social, economic problems, science, education, fundamental theological, religious science, public, political, relations with the state, inter-religious, inter-denominational relations and broad social circles.
The social teaching of the church can be a benchmark for the adoption of rules, laws and decisions of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the legislative and executive authorities of the Republic of Armenia.
The office is also involved in the discussion of applications and letters related to conceptual issues from the Catholicosate, Chancellery, Monastic Council, various departments and commissions, conducts studies on the issues in question, and also conveys the Church's conceptual approaches to the relevant office of the Mother See.
One of the functions of the office is also the preparation of solid, practical recommendations regarding the mission and functions of the Mother See, dioceses, other church departments and structures and presenting them to the leaders and chairmen.
