Bishop Gevork Saroyan

  • General Information

 

Was born in 1977, in Masis. Baptismal name is Arman.

From 1983 to 1993 - Secondary school of Marmarashen, Ararat region.

From 1993 to 1998 - Vaskenian Theological Academy in Lake Sevan.

From 1998 to 1999 - Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

From 2002 to 2003 - General Psychology and Philosophy at the Concordia College of New York.

From 2003 to 2005 -  Leeds University, Great Britain, Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Pastoral Studies.

From 2005 to 2008 - Oxford University and received a Master of Arts degree in Theology.

From 2013 to 2017 - Faculty of Theology at Yerevan State University (Postgraduate).

In 2015 - Durham University, UK, for a Ph.D. in Historical Theology.

In 2017 -  Faculty of Theology of Yerevan State University and received his Ph.D. in history and theory of religion. Thesis: “Yervand Ter-Minasyan’s works in church-related science and the relations to the school of liberal Protestantism”.

In 2022 - Durham University (England), Doctor of Philosophy in Theology. Thesis:"The origin of Armenian philanthropy: Nerses the Great and the Problem of Greek Influence (A Case Study)".

 

  • Ecclesiastical titles and ordination

 

In 1999 - Ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Voskan Galpakian.

In 2001 - Ordained as a celibate priest by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians

In 2010 - Rank of Senior Archimandrite by His Grace Bishop Ararat Galtakjian. (Thesis: “Yervand Ter-Minasyan’s works in church-related science and the relations to the school of liberal Protestantism”).

In 2011 - Consecrated as a Bishop by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.

 

  • Tenure

 

In 2000 - Division Administrator in the “Karekin I” Scientific Center of the Mother See.

From 2006 to 2007 -  Deputy Director in the “Karekin I” Scientific Centre.

From 2007 to 2008 -  Vice Dean in the Vaskenian Theological Academy.

From 2008 to 2010 -  Dean in the Vaskenian Theological Academy.

From 2010 to 2012 - Dean of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

From 2012 to 2019 - Dean of the Educational Institutions of the Mother See.

From 2019 to 2021 - Dean of the Ararat Region of the Araratian Pontifical Diocese.

Since 2021 - Primate of the Diocese of Masyatsotn.
