Bishop Markos Hovhannisyan
Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Ukraine
- General Information
Was born in 1973, in the village of Bardzrashen, in the Shirak region. Baptismal name is Hratch.
From 1980 to 1990 - № 5 secondary school, in Etchmiadzin.
From 1990 to 1996 - Gevorkian Theological Seminary.
From 2003 to 2006 - Saint Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Moscow.
- Ecclesiastical titles and ordination
In 1996 - Ordained to the Diaconate by His Grace Bishop Anania Arabajian.
In 2000 - Ordained as a Celibate priest by His Eminence Archbishop Shahe Achemian.
In 2005 - Rank of Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Arshak Khachatrian. Thesis: "Inscriptions from the Viewpoint of Ecclesiastical Studies".
On November 19, in 2006 - Consecrated as a Bishop by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.
- Tenure
From 1996 to 1998 -Director of the "Alex and Marie Manoogian" Treasury House.
From 1998 to 2000 - Spiritual servant in the Republic of Armenia Armed Forces.
From 2000 to 2001 - Responsibility of overseeing the care and preservation of the buildings of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
From 2001 to 2002 - Assistant to the Primate, in the Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan.
From 2002 to 2005 - Spiritual pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church of Riga, Latvia.
From 2005 to 2006 - Locum Tenens in the Diocese of Gegharkunik․
From 2006 to 2015 - Primate of the Diocese of Gegharkunik.
In 2008 - Member of the Congress of World Leaders and Traditional Religions.
From 2009 to 2015 - Member of the Public Council of Armenia.
From 2009 to 2015 - President of the Board of Trustees of the World Council of Churches Armenia Round Table Charitable Foundation.
Since 2015 - Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Ukraine.
