  • General Information

 

Was born on May 09, 1955, in Yerevan, Armenia. Baptismal name is Samvel.

From 1962 to 1972 - School № 114 in Yerevan.

From 1970 to 1975 - Piano classes at the Arno Babajanian Musical-Pedagogical College of Yerevan

From 1975 to 1980 - Komitas Conservatoire of Yerevan, graduating the Prof. Kathy Malkhasyan class in 1980.

From 1984 to 1987 - Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

 

  • Ecclesiastical titles and ordination

 

In 1986 - Ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Hoosik Santoorian.

In 1988 -  Ordained as a Celibate priest by Archbishop Hoosik Santoorian.

In 1989 - Rank of Archimandrite by His Grace Bishop Anania Arabajian.Thesis:  “Shepherd of Hermas”.

In 1994 - Rank of Senior Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Nerses Pozapalian. Thesis:  “Petros Quture and his Anthology of Theology”.

In 1997 - Consecrated as a Bishop by by the Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin I.

In 2012 - Rank of Archbishop by the Pontifical Order of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.

 

  • Tenure

 

From 1987 to 1991 -  Lecturer at the Gevorkian Theological Seminary (Patristics and Early Church History).

From 1989 to 1991 - Vice-Dean of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

Form 1991 to 1997 - Locum Tenens of the newly organized Armenian Diocese of Ukraine.

From 1997 to 2000 - Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Ukraine.

From 1997 to 2000 - member of the Supreme Spiritual Council .

From 2000 to 2010 - Primate of the Armenian Church Diocese of Great Britain.

From 2001 to 2006 - President of the Council of the Eastern Orthodox Churches of Britain.

From 2001 to 2010 -  Chairman of the Forum of the Anglican-Orthodox Eastern Churches.

From 2006 to 2010 -  Co-President of the Council of the Churches of England.

From 2006 to 2014 - Member of the "Faith and Order" Commission for the World Council of Churches.

From 2010 to 2013 -  Head of the Publishing Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

From 2013 to 2014 - Locum Tenens of the Armenian Church Diocese of Canada.

Since 2014 - Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

From 2020 - Chairman of the Awards and Disciplinary Committee of the Mother See.
