Was born On January 19, 1955, in Tbilisi, Georgia. Baptismal name is Samvel.

From 1967 to 1973 - Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

From 1977 to 1981 - Faculty of Theology of the National University of Athens.

In 1987 - University of Athens (doctoral degree).

 

  • Ecclesiastical titles and ordination

In 1974 - Ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Sion Manookian. 

In 1973 - Ordained as a Celibate priest by His Eminence Archbishop Sion Manookian.

In 1975 - Rank of Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Housik Santourian,

In 1993 - Rank of Senior Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Shahe Achemian.

In 1997 - Consecrated as a Bishop by by the Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin I.

In 2006 - Rank of Archbishop by the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.

 

  • Tenure

 

From 1973 to 1975 - Secretary of the "Etchmiadzin" Monthly.

From 1979 to 1989 - Lecturer at the Gevorkian Theological Seminary(lectures on Patristics, Introduction to the New Testament, and History of the Armenian Apostolic Church).

From 1980 to 1989 -  Dean of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary.

From 1984 to 1990 - Member of the Commission "Program on Theological Education" of the WCC.

From 1985 to 1990 - Responsible for translation of the Bible into Eastern Armenian (Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, 1994).

From 1990 to 1991 - Abbott of the Haghpat Monastery

From 1991 to 1997 - Vicar General of the Armenian Diocese of New Nakhichevan and Russia.

From 1997 to 1999 - Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Southern Russia.

From 1999 to 2005 -  Head of the Inter-Church Relations Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

From 2000 to 2017 - Member of the Supreme Spiritual Council.

From 2000 to 2010 - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Armenian Bible Society.

In 2000 - Chairman of the Commission of Gevorkian Theological Seminary studying the research works of the seminarians.

In 2001 - Representative of the Armenian Church on the International Commission of the Anglican-Oriental Orthodox Dialogue.

From 2001 to 2003 - Member of the Ritual Committee of the 12th General Assembly of the Conference of European Churches (CEC).

From 2002 to 2004 - In charge of the Priest Accelerated Course.

In 2003 - Member of the Central Committee of the Conference of European Churches.

In 2004 - Co-Chair of the Churches in Dialogue Committee.

In 2004  - Member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Religious Council of CIS.

From 2006 to 2010 - Head of the Publishing Department of the Mother See.  

From 2010 to 2023 -  Secretary-General of the Bible Society of Armenia.

From 2012 to 2015 - Primate of the Diocese of Tavoush.

Since 2023 - Spritual Dean of the St. Karapet Church in Crete, Heraklion.
