Born in on October 12, 1941, Beirut, Lebanon.
Baptismal name is Jirayr.

Primary education- Forty Martyrs Armenian National School.

In 1957 - the Eshrefi National Secondary College.  

From 1957 to 1960 - Pharmacist Assistant and an apothecary. 

From 1960 to 1964 - Gevorkian Theological Seminary of the Holy Etchmiadzin

From 1956 to 1972 - Monash University, Melbourne.

 

  • Ecclesiastical titles and ordinations

In 1963 - Ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Haigazun Abrahamyan.

In 1965 - Ordained as a celibate priest by His Eminence Archbishop Asoghik Ghazaryan.

In 1967 -  Rank of Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Haigazun Abrahamyan.

In 1970 -  Rank of Senior Archimandrite by His Eminence Archbishop Haigazun Abrahamyan

In 1982 - Consecrated as a Bishop by His Holiness Vasken I, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians

In 1992 - Archbishop by the Encyclical of His Holiness Vasken I, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians

1968 -  Vicar General in the Armenian Diocese of Australia.

From 1973 to 1991 - Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Damascus.

From 1973 to 2011 - Simultaneously, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Greece.

In 1977 - Representative of the Armenian Church to the Council of European Churches, member of the Central Committee.
